Dell unveiled three new additions to its high-end XPS line of computers today at IFA 2012, Berlin. The new XPS computers look a world apart in their sizes and forms yet are designed to work in combination to “enable both consumer and business customers to transition seamlessly from home to office”. The range consists, at this time, of a tablet, an Ultrabook/tablet convertible and a large screened All-in-one design.
Dell XPS computers are the company’s top tier products featuring Dell’s best industrial design and cutting edge components. Dell’s three new additions to the XPS range “include the XPS 10, a 10-inch tablet built to support Windows RT; the XPS Duo 12 convertible that combines two devices in one, a powerful Ultrabook plus full featured tablet; and XPS One 27 all-in-one PC, which offers a stunning Wide Quad HD display, and will soon be available with touch functionality.” Dell says that people want devices that can “combine their personal and professional lives” and this is what brought about the BYOD movement. The wide range of form factors in the XPS range can help businesses feel more at ease because “Dell’s new XPS solutions have both the performance and design desired by consumers, and the security and manageability features required by businesses”.
Dell XPS 10: Combining Productivity, Mobility and Long Battery Life
The Dell XPS 10 uses an ARM processor and runs the Windows RT operating system. For flexibility and content creation, rather than just consumption, Dell offers a mobile keyboard dock and a battery that can provide a “multiday” run time on a single charge. IT managers will be able to manage and secure the XPS 10 tablet remotely.
XPS Duo 12: Two Devices in One Package - Powerful Ultrabook Plus Full Featured Tablet
This Ultrabook/tablet hybrid has garnered a lot of coverage on tech news sites. The device looks good with “a novel and elegant flip hinge touchscreen display designed to take advantage of the upcoming operating system advances for touch interaction”. Also all gadget fans like two(or more)-in-one products. The XPS Duo 12 features a full HD 12-inch display safely beneath a slice of Gorilla Glass. The machine is powered by an Intel i5 processor and Dell will offer i7 versions too. Magnets lock the screen in the frame in either orientation; as laptop or tablet. The new XPS Duo 12 is much thinner than its closest ancestor, the Inspiron Duo netbook.
XPS One 27: Delivering Nearly Twice the Pixel Density of Any Other 27-inch AIO PC
All-in-ones are a bright spot in the declining PC market and Dell has a few interesting features to make the XPS One 27 stand out from the crowd. The screen is the star of this show; Dell says “The gorgeous, space-saving design features a vibrant, 27-inch Wide Quad HD Display, providing one of the best experiences in an all-in-one today.” A machine like the XPS One 27 is good for both work and play. To give a great overall audio-visual experience the XPS One 27 features “Infinity Premium speakers and Waves MaxxAudio 4 audio technology that delivers deep, rich sound, complete with an expanded stereo field”.
These new computers are all due to be available for sale when Windows 8 launches at the end of October. Dell didn’t release any price details.
