Thecus continue to expand their N series of storage devices with a new model surfacing this month, the N2050. So what's this one got?

First up, all of the SATA interfaces (internal and external) support the newer 3Gbps data rate allowing for some tasty burst rates, providing the disk drives are up to it. We mention internal and external because the N2050 has room for two internal SATA drives, but also has an eSATA port for direct connection of an external drive. There's also a USB 2.0 connection for USB DAS (direct attached storage), but bear in mind that eSATA DAS is, on paper at least, more than six times faster than USB 2.0.

How much storage does this amount to? A hell of a lot, if you like. Cram a couple of 500GB drives internally and put them in RAID 1, or if you're feeling dangerous why not go for RAID and have yourself 1TB of storage on your little NAS box? Add another 500GB drive externally and you've got yourself ample storage for photos, music and videos - providing there are no rootkits on your PC stopping you, of course.

In true HEXUS style, we've got some spy shots of the Thecus N2050 for you. The product will be available in the latter half of January.
