Whilst unconfirmed, word in the industry is that Intel may very well move up its launch of Ivy Bridge by six days, to April 23rd.

It's expected that the change in date is a sign that Ultrabook manufacturers have built-up enough stock for an early launch and would likely wish to ride on the PR wave of an official unveiling as they begin to ship their products.

Not completely unlike AMD and its Trinity APU line-up, Intel has suffered delays, with Ivy Bridge originally expected to launch at the beginning of April. This will be Intel's first offering based on its new 22nm 3D transistor design, with expectations running high for improved power consumption and integrated graphics with the firm's refreshed HD 4000-series GPU.

Current specification leaks suggest, however, that extreme-end Ivy Bridge offerings won't emerge until further down the line and so, it may still be very much, a waiting game for eager enthusiasts hoping to place their hands on the 22nm goodness.

I was under the impression that it was only quad cores being launched first, with the dual cores in June?
Yeah that's still correct AFAIK, by ‘extreme end’ I think they mean a skt2011 replacement.
The sooner the better - I want Sandy Bridge prices to come down!

My hope is that the the older i5 and i7's go down fairly quickly
Hm, is this going to be worth an upgrade from a 2500K? Probably not I imagine… will be interested to see the numbers once they're out..
A single gen is very rarely a worthwhile upgrade, especially since this is a Tick (die shrink) rather than a Tock (architecture change). IGP should see quite an improvement (hence why Intel are refering to it as ‘Tick+’) but if you're after CPU power you'd be better off saving your money.
