Introduction

As part of our continuing coverage of the new ATI Radeon X1000-series of graphics products on HEXUS.core and HEXUS.lifestyle, I had the chance to exchange email recently with Godfrey Cheng, the ATI Director of Marketing for Multimedia Products, and interview him about some points relating to Avivo in the time since the new hardware launched.

We covered Avivo here for those that need a refresher on the technology (and a recap on my personal rant regarding DVI!) and what it purports to bring to the table, in terms of video and display quality on ATI Radeon products.

For those that aren't familiar with the larger-than-life marketing maestro for multimedia at ATI, Godfrey isn't afraid to say what he thinks on a wide range of topics, not least the video quality of the products he's in charge with. That makes an interview with him always worth it. Would Mr. Cheng open up across our entire set of questions, or would he refrain from answering various things for the time being?

The questions ranged from H.264 (hey, I had to ask the obvious) to the HQV video benchmark, video quality tuning, DVI ports and even some stuff on All-In-Wonder (would be rude not to pry).

Join me in my chat with Godfrey for HEXUS.core about video and various other stuff, but only after casting your eyes on him seemingly drowning in an image he supplied, which I've cunningly manipulated with a HDR-like effect to highlight the 10bpc scanout on Avivo hardware. Really, I only did it to waste some time at work, but don't tell David or PD that, O.K.? Cool, onwards.

LOL U LOSE GODFREY!
