Expected to launch from April, Toshiba has announced its new 'EXCERIA' range of SDHC memory cards, capable of speeds of over 90MB/s. The new line-up will support SD Memory Card Standard version 3.0 UHS-I.
The firm's high-end EXCERIA Type 1 cards will launch in July, capable of reads of up to 95MB/s and writes of up to 90MB/s, shipping in 8GB, 16GB and 32GB capacities.
The firm's mid-range EXCERIA Type 2 cards will launch in August and support reads of up to 90MB/s and writes of up to 60MB/s, shipping in 16GB, 32GB and 64GB capacities.
Finally, Toshiba's low-end EXCERIA Type HD cards will be the first to launch, in April and in May, capable of reads of up to 90MB/s and writes of up to 30MB/s, in 8GB, 16GB and 32GB capacities.
We'd quite like to see more devices supporting the UHS-I standard on the market, beyond high-end cameras, along with these speeds in finding their way into MicroSD cards, which, with thanks to mobile phones, tend to now play a large roll in the portable storage market. It would perhaps help if the industry pushed for standards beyond Class 10, which sets a minimum speed of 10MB/s, encouraging firms to push out faster offerings in order to differentiate their products.
