Are you a fan of the Samsung GALAXY line-up, but perhaps find the phones to be a little too large for your liking? Well worry not, as Samsung has officially announced the GALAXY Pocket, a small, 2.8 inch display, Android 2.3 smartphone, heading to the UK later this year.

Samsung GALAXY Pocket

The smartphone features a 240 x 320 QVGA 2.8 inch display, an 832MHz processor and 3GB of expandable storage. It's hoped, that given the small size and low-end specifications of the device, that it'll enter the market at a rather appealing price point. At 97g, the device is incredibly lightweight, if not quite as slim as other GALAXY family members.

Other Storage MicroSD
Camera 2MP fixed-focus
Connectivity BT 3.0, WiFi b/g/n, USB 2.0, 3.5mm Ear Jack
Display 2.6 inch 240 x 320 TN LCD
Dimensions 103.7 x 57.5 x 12mm, 97g

Is it just me, or is Samsung dangerously close to jumping feet-first into the same trap that many accused HTC of falling into? That is, of having far too many models and as a result confusing the heck out of the poor consumer?

I just checked the Samsung UK mobiles page (http://www.samsung.com/uk/consumer/mobile-devices/smartphones/android) and there's 17 distinct models that I can see, so with the “Pocket” that's 18!

I was in a couple of phone shops at the weekend, and I'm sure that I saw at least half a dozen Samsung-Android phones on display in each place.
One must assume this will come in under Ā£100
