Hewlett Packard has announced the Z1, the world’s first all-in-one workstation with a 27in diagonal display.

Aimed at digital media, computer-aided design, and entertainment professionals, the Z1 features an Intel quad-core Xeon processor from the Sandy Bridge range, NVIDIA Quadro graphics, and four memory slots for up to 32GB of DDR3.

The IPS 2,560x1,440 resolution display has a 178-degree viewing angle and supports more than one billion colours.

Measuring 26x23x16.5in, the base model features a dual-core Intel Core i3 2120 3.3Ghz chip with integrated Intel HD 3000 graphics, but there are also two other versions available; one which features a quad-core Intel Xeon E3 1245 3.3GHz processor, and the other with a high-end quad-core Intel Xeon E3 1280 3.5GHz processor. Both of the high-end models support Nvidia Quadro 3D graphics.

Users can choose from a variety of storage types, including 7.2K and 10K SATA, SSD, optional RAID configurations, removable drives (AMO), a multiformat media card reader and optical drives including a slot-load Blu-ray writer.

One of the coolest features of the Z1 is its flip-top which makes it easy for users to change and upgrade components.

The Z1 will launch in the UK in April with prices starting from £1,349.

My guess would be, yes. It's the only reason I could think of to be able to push it back on your desk.
Another overheating HP anyone?

Isn't it just to make it easy to upgrade? (Not that I can see anyone with an all in one wanting to upgrade quite that often that its actually useful…)
