Many rumours have been floating around as of late with regards to Samsung's much awaited Galaxy S3 smartphone. Since the announcement that the device would not be present at the Mobile World Congress later this month, consumers and journalists alike have been eager for any titbits of information or rumours that they could place their hands on.

One such rumour has emerged in the form of images depicting a Samsung-branded product featuring a curved display. One look at the various images out there will tell you that these pictures are from an early demonstration model shown back at CES 2011, displaying just what is possible with flexible OLED technology, however, we thought the rumour worth a mention as currently, other mock-ups have compared the device to the Galaxy Note and S2 models, with an improved HD screen and thin bezel, despite Samsung's rather bold claim that mass-production flexible-OLED displays would be ready for use during the first half of 2012.

Another rumour has suggested that both the S3 and Apple's iPhone 5 will feature a waterproof coating from Liquipel, which offers a protective nano-layer coating around devices and their internal components, certainly it would be a much welcomed feature, staving off large insurance claims and with any luck, keeping water damage off the list of warranty-voiding clauses. Without any doubt, the technology is an impressive one.

There have also been suggestions from tech-blog, IBTimes, that Samsung will capitalise on the third iteration of its Galaxy device and launch a Samsung Galaxy S 3D, featuring a 3D display and camera. As with all the rumours in this post, there is little evidence to backup claims, however, with Samsung dedicating an event to the device's launch, we suspect that there will be something unique and special about the new release, only, we don't yet know what. With no doubt, however, the rumours are keeping imaginations alive whilst we all eagerly await Samsung's upcoming announcement.

Given they refuse warranty for water ingress, and have a sensor to prove it,
I'm amazed iphones have gaping holes, and no rubber bungs that other phones have.
(I know you can buy them from 3rd parties)
I'm not convinced by that design - would prefer that the screen was flat, or slightly convex. The “lazy U” design is undoubtedly interesting, but I think too many folks will think it looks like it's suffered a mishap. If the SGS3 is designed like that then I'll definitely give it a miss.

Still think that the old SonyEricsson Arc and Arc S had the most appealing case design.

Water resistance sounds like a nice to have - although heavy rain resistance would appeal more to me than being “dropped in a puddle” proof.

Consider perhaps though, a return to a flip-style phone (which are really popular in Japan still :S), except when you flip it open there is one gigantic, continuous, OLED display.

I like your thinking! Now that genuinely would be a “game changer” - especially if they then sell a large version of that to Android/Apple tablet makers.

Quick! Patent it before Apple tries to…

I postulate that exact idea, oh a couple of years ago now, on a forum (might even have been these very forums and flexible displays had just started development) about phone design and I was shot down in flames for such a “stupid idea” (I guess I was ahead of my time :D ).
