With the launch of the Radeon HD 7970 earlier this month to tease those with pockets alas too shallow, many AMD fans are no doubt now eagerly awaiting the release of the mainstream Radeon HD 7950, which is expected to launch anywhere from the last day of January to early February.

Whilst we don't have a review for you just yet, we can report that details of the new card's clock speeds have emerged on Turkish website, Donanim Haber. The site suggests that there will be two variants of the HD 7950, one sporting 1.5GB and the other 3GB of RAM. The stock clock speeds are reported to be 800MHz for the GPU and 5000MHz (effective) for the RAM. That's a decrease of 125MHz and 500MHz respectively in comparison to the top-of-the-line HD 7970.

From what we gather, there is also likely to be a reduction in the number of unified shaders and texture mapping units in the HD 7950; we are eager to benchmark one of these cards to find out if their performance will match the expected cost, which places the cards at a price-point $100-$150 below that of the HD 7970. Apologies for the lack of a pound price-point at this stage.
