OCZ has unleashed two new SSD lines - the Octane and Octane-S2 - powered by the Indilinx Everest platform.

Shipping in 2.5in 128GB, 256GB, 512GB and 1TB models, the Octane SSDs boast maximum sequential read/write speeds of up to 560MB/s and 400MB/s respectively - utilising SATA 6Gbps connectivity. The Octane-S2, utilising SATA 3Gbps connectivity, delivers maximum sequential read/write speeds of up to 275MB/s and 265MB/s respectively. OCZ touts that the new solutions put-out high transactional performance, and are optimised for 4K to 16K compressed files.

As well as latency reduction technology and TRIM support, the new SSDs also feature Indilinx's NDurance technology, which is said to increase the lifespan of NAND flash memory. Ryan Petersen, CEO of OCZ Technology, said: "Until now SSDs have been tailored for specific applications, forcing users into a product which maximises performance for a narrow band of applications, but is significantly lacking in others." "The Octane Series solves this problem by providing the highest level of performance across varied workloads, including mixed file sizes and mixed compressible and uncompressible data, all while nearly doubling NAND flash endurance."

The Octane and Octane-S2 SSDs are expected to become available, from November 1st, but there's no mention of pricing just yet.
