Sainsbury's and Sky have teamed up to give the humble shopping trolley, something of a high-tech upgrade.

Kitted-out with a tilting iPad holder, speakers and an onboard battery with self-charging solar power - to ensure that the device doesn't run out of juice - there's also a front bumper, and sensor, to prevent accidents in the aisles.

We're told that sports fans in particular will appreciate using the Sky Go iPad app, to keep abreast of the latest sports news - whilst presumably achieving great success with multitasking, and doing their grocery shopping simultaneously.

Whether the idea quite kicks off or not, remains to be seen, but Sainsbury's claims that the trial is one way of striving to make customers' lives simpler.

And free wifi through all the stores, right?
“Hi there, iPad insurance here. You've had your iPad stolen sir? Could you please confirm where it was at the time?”

“On a trolley you say? While you had your head in the freezer? Right. Let me pass you to the idiot department.”
Aaaaand the amount of ignorance i must constantly chide while shopping just rose 300%.
In other news, trolley traffic collisions have quadroupled is recent weeks…
*checks calendar* Surely this must be some elaborate joke??
