Too much of a good thing
Facebook is presumably aware that one of the biggest reasons people are put off the social networking service is privacy. You can have too much of a good thing, it seems, and while people want to share their holiday pics with family and friends, they don't necessarily want their boss seeing photos of them out on the piss.
So Facebook has announced yet another raft of privacy changes focusing on making it easier to share with who you want, with the emphasis on ‘want. The most eye-catching is the option to approve photos you've been tagged in before they appear on your profile - handy if you like to party with snap-happy mates - as well as approve the tags themselves. Here are the rest.
- Inline Profile Controls - drop-down menus for various bits of profile content that allow you to fine-tune who can see it. This also applies to individual updates.
- View Profile As - makes it easier to see what your profile looks like to others
- Word Change: "Everyone" to "Public" - that's it
- Change Your Mind After You Post? - you can revise or delete updates after you've posted them
- Tag Who You're With, or What You Want to Talk About - expands the range of who or what you can tag
- Tag Locations in Posts - extends the smartphone ‘locations' feature to everything, mobile version being phased out
- Remove Tags or Content from Facebook - made easier
