MSI is trumpeting that its HD 6870 powered graphics solution - the R6870 Hawk - has added multiple HD 6870 world records, to its list of credentials.

Guided by Danish overclocker, David "THC" Trandberg, the R6870 Hawk traversed the peaks of 3DMark05, 3DMark06, and 3DMark Vantage, notching up record HD 6870 scores of 44,563, 34,471 and 26,120 respectively. With clock and memory speeds of 1,325MHz and 1,260MHz (5,040MHz effective) on the 3DMark 05 and 3DMark 06 runs, the R6870 Hawk squeezed out speeds of 1,343MHz and 1,317MHz (5,268MHz effective) on the 3DMark Vantage run.

Obviously, a healthy dose of LN2 cooling was involved, but Trandberg praised the power delivery system adopted by MSI, plus Triple Overclocking functionality, which allowed him to use the company's Afterburner software to tinkle with GPU, memory and VDDCI voltages.

MSI adds that its Military Class II components deliver extreme stability, and even when not dabbling in fanciful cooling techniques, the Twin Frozr III cooling solution - featuring propeller blade technology - gives an overclocking edge.
