Absolutely not!

China's foreign ministry has hit back at claims that it is meddling with Google's Gmail service in the vast country.

The BBC reported that Jiang Yu, a spokeswoman from the ministry said: "This is an unacceptable accusation."

Yesterday, Google said that the Chinese authorities' crackdown on  an online dissident movement called the ‘jasmine revolution,'' has led to its Chinese users and advertisers having difficulty with Gmail in the past month and even an app to help people find relatives potentially affected or blocked by the Japanese earthquake and tsunami has been compromised.

A Google spokesman reportedly said: "Relating to Google there is no issue on our side. We have checked extensively. This is a government blockage carefully designed to look like the problem is with Gmail."

The search giant has apparently recently warned that it has "noticed some highly targeted and apparently politically motivated attacks against our users. We believe activists may have been a specific target."

It is not the first time Google has had trouble with the Chinese authorities and it reportedly said it has suffered cyber-attacks from organisations in the country intent upon hacking into Gmail accounts of human rights activists in the country.

Numerous threats and ultimatums have been issued in recent years and Google has reduced its presence in China because of all the problems relating to privacy and censorship.

Beijing has also denied its part in any state-issued cyber attacks in the past and reportedly dubbed Google's accusations ‘groundless'.
