QNAP has been demonstrating a new release of its Turbo NAS firmware at CeBIT 2011.

Version 3.4, available to QNAP customers immediately, introduces a raft of new features including support for RAID 10 disk arrays, real-time remote replication of one NAS to another and MyCloudNAS Remote Access.

The latter, a free built-in DNS service, allows user to acquire a unique domain name for their NAS for easy access over the Internet. Handy if phrases like port forwarding scare you half to death.

And that's just the tip of the iceberg. Other new features include improved folder permissions, cloud-based backup, support for a wider range of USB Wi-Fi adapters, a new print server with support for Mac, virtual LAN support and a new release of QNAP's BitTorrent/HTTP/FTP download manager, Download Station V2.

Check if the new release is available for your NAS model at QNAP's download centre, and if you need a live demonstration, here's one courtesy of QNAP's Ted Tang.

Good release.

Inflation of LUNs on the fly is much appreciated!
