Golden year?

Facebook biopic The Social Network has cleaned up at The Golden Globes, scooping a quartet of awards including best dramatic picture.

It was predicted that The King's Speech would grab the most Globes but while Colin Firth picked up best actor for his portrayal of King George VI, Sony Pictures' The Social Network won the most film trophies, according to Hollywood Reporter.

The film's director, David Fincher received the accolade of best director, while the movie also took home trophies for its score and screenplay by Aaron Sorkin.

Despite a rather negative portrayal of Facebook's founder Mark Zuckerberg in the flick, Fincher and Sorkin seized the opportunity to praise Zuck and clear up some criticism about the negative portrayal of women in the film.

In the film, Zuckerberg's girlfriend (Rooney Mara) tells him: "You are probably going to be a very successful computer person. But you're going to go through life thinking that girls don't like you because you're a nerd. And I want you to know, from the bottom of my heart, that that won't be true. It'll be because you're an asshole."

Pretty harsh. TechCrunch reported that Sorkin said about the contentious scene: "I wanted to say to Mark Zuckerberg, if you're watching tonight, Rooney Mara's character makes a prediction at the beginning of the movie, she was wrong. You turned out to be a great entrepreneur, a visionary and an altruist."

Reports at the time of filming hinted that Facebook was unwilling to be the subject of a film, but Rudin reportedly said: "I want to thank everybody at Facebook; Mark Zuckerberg for his willingness to allow us to use his life and work as a metaphor through which to tell a story about communication and the way we relate to each other."

There were also accusations that the film portrayed women in a negative light and was to all intensive purposes, misogynistic.  Sorkin apparently tried to address the bad press by saying: "And I want to thank all the female nominees tonight for helping demonstrate to my young daughter that elite is not a bad word, it's a an aspirational one. Honey, look around, smart girls have more fun, and honey, you're one of them, I love you."

Meanwhile, Zuckerberg himself has picked up an award, but not at The Golden Globes. Classy men's mag Esquire has named him one of the top 10 people in its ‘2010 Celebrity Hall of Shame'

The magazine has seemingly not been a fan of Zuck, branding him a ‘muppet' and suggesting readers could dress up as him for Halloween.

"No matter how much money you have or how many people's secrets you hold in your digital palm, you cannot show up to a black-tie event in a t-shirt and jeans and expect to be taken seriously," Esquire wrote.

The article suggested: "You just gave a hundred million to Newark's schools. Would it kill you to throw a couple thousand to, say, Zegna for a couple of nice suits? Even Bill Gates wears a sport coat, for chrissakes."

In case you are interested, Zuckerberg was joined by: Robert Pattinson, Russell Brand, Joaquin among others who also made Esquire's badly dressed list. But Zuckerberg will probably not be too upset about his latest accolade, having recently been named Time magazine's Person of the Year and with rumours that his fortune continues to soar ahead of IPO speculation.
