Antec has announced that it’s going to be expanding beyond the world of cases and power supplies and into the audio game with a new line of speakers.

Rather than follow the likes of Corsair with a pair of gaming headphones, the manufacturer is taking on the high-end speaker market with an all new brand – soundscience – who’s first product is the rockus Speaker System.

Since they're being aimed at the upper-echelon's of the market, Antec has spent a lot of time tweaking and refining the rockus speakers so that they deliver on performance. Apparently they've been in development for more than two years in an attempt to get the sound just right, and the result is a 2.1 speaker set that the manufacturer claims is perfectly balanced and will be equally at home blasting through the latest shooter as a delicate symphony.

The manufacturer also leveraged its experience in case and PSU design in picking high-quality materials that would cut down on vibration to help maintain the overall sound quality.

The end result is a pair of aluminium-clad speakers and a compact yet efficient sub-woofer that should deliver crisp, clear audio no matter what the source. Speaking of which, the set offers a fair bit of choice, with 3.5mm or phono analog and optical digital inputs, giving you plenty of options for hooking up games consoles, PCs and mp3 players.

The speakers also support soundscience’s proprietry 3D DSPs – 3Dsst – for simulating positional audio out of the two speakers and a wired remote-control.

Clearly the speakers's $249 (£195 inc VAT) price tag means that they're targeted at the well heeled enthusiast, but according to Antec, they'll be worth the money. For those interested, the soundscience rockus 2.1 speakers should be available now.
