Slough, UK, 23rd November, 2010 – LG Electronics (LG), a global leader in consumer electronics, is extending its existing internet TV offering to bring consumers access to even more online applications.  LG will enhance its current internet TV service, NetCast™, with nine new applications including BBC iPlayer, movies on demand from Acetrax, Google Maps, Facebook™, Twitter™ and an internet radio application for the ultimate connected TV.

LG recognises that people’s viewing habits are constantly evolving, with up to 50% of consumers admitting they often use a laptop or PC at the same time as watching TV. The updated NetCast™ service portfolio promises to make it even easier for viewers to be entertained from the comfort of their living room as these new applications bolster LG’s existing NetCast™ service, which already includes YouTube, Accuweather and Picasa.

This new functionality demonstrates LG’s commitment to providing consumers with a true home entertainment hub, with many LG products also offering wireless connectivity and DLNA services.

The new online applications will be available to current owners of LG NetCast™ TVs*.  Owners will easily be able to update by connecting their LG NetCast™ TV to a broadband connection (via Ethernet or an LG wireless dongle) and pressing the NetCast™ button on the remote control where an automated update will take place.

Stephen Gater, Head of Marketing Home Entertainment, LG UK comments: “People want to be entertained and the role of the traditional TV is changing.  We’re committed to offering our customers a fully connected home and these new applications will further enhance our current offering.”

“Having catch-up TV, movies, and social networking on demand will mean that people’s TVs are truly the hub of the living room. Services like Facebook™, BBC iPlayer and Acetrax mean that people can now enjoy what they want, whenever they like.”

The nine new internet services will be available on selected LG NetCast™ TVs immediately and a minimum 2MB broadband speed is recommended for optimal viewing.
