Minecraft - the increasingly-popular sandbox game - really has very few limits.  Players have recreated everything from the underwater city of Rapture and its sky-borne counterpart Columbia to the Starship Enterprise and even the entire planet Earth.

But those are all child's play compared to what user theinternetftw has managed to craft.  After much virtual blood, sweat and tears (we assume), the intrepid architect has created a fully-functional 16-bit arithmetic logic unit (ALU) within the game.

By using a combustible material - called redstone - he has been able to build a simple computer capable of adding or subtracting numbers and giving a binary output - albeit quite slowly.  The impressive project is far from over, though.  His next step is to build memory, before attempting to make the machine capable of running 'Hack' code.

The massive project - which involved a huge amount of design, testing and debugging - is certainly amazing to look at, but apparently it was far from a waste of time.  Having posted his progress on Reddit, the computer-science student appears to have been offered a job with a local company for his efforts.

We have to salute theinternetftw's dedication, sheer level of nerdiness and excessive amounts of free time for managing this amazing feat.  Hats off to you, sir.

Thanks to adam-bee92 for sending in the tip!
