Power to the gamer

Corsair has made quite a name for itself in the past few years by releasing some excellent enthusiast-grade PSUs.  However, its latest release is aimed at the mainstream gaming-market, attempting to provide the perfect balance between performance, features and price.

The new power-supplies will come in 600W, 700W and 800W varieties and all feature a single 12V rail.  This can handle up to 65A, which should keep them running stably even under load.  Each of the PSUs are also 80 PLUS certified and feature a low-RPM 140mm PWM fan to keep things quiet.

While the GS600 and GS700 each feature two eight-pin PCIe power-connectors, the lower-power model doesn't get the benefit of SLI certification.  Not only is the GS800 certified, but it includes four eight-pin connectors to enable multi-GPU set-ups with all but the most power-hungry video-cards.

The 'gaming' feature of these PSUs is the fact that the fan is illuminated and can be cycled through blue, red or white.  Most people tend to love or vehemently hate LED-fans, so thankfully the lighting can be turned off with the flick of a switch.

Obviously there will be sacrifices when it comes to lower-price PSUs, so you won't find features like a modular-design here.  Corsair's power-supplies have an very good reputation, though, so we can expect the same high-grade components and excellent build-quality in the GS-series.

These PSUs should be available immediately starting at $99.99 for the GS600, $109.99 for the GS700 and $119.99 for the GS800 (around £78, £86 and £94 including VAT, respectively).

No modular design… Come on, this should be a standard now on any but cheap budget PSU's

Prices are nothing special either, you can buy modular, quiet PSU's for the same prices from other manufactures that are equally as good in quality.

Agreed Corsair still seem to be dining out on the fact that their first PSU's were the dogs danglies - but the simple fact is that those PSU's were actually just as cheap or in fact cheaper than these new “budget” gaming efforts.
have to say i'm disappointed with this, especially as already mentioned, other manufacturers offer higher specs for similar or less money. made it modular for the same price and it should be on to a winner
