When we caught wind of ASUS's Geode-powered Eee 1201K, we were worried that the company had lost the plot. Getting firmly back on track though, a netbook powered by AMD's latest ultraportable-platform has appeared at a German e-tailer.
The 12in Eee 1215T appears to be based on the Nile platform, making use of the single-core Athlon II Neo K125 clocked at 1.7GHz. This is the same processor found in the base-model of the Dell M101z, as well as several other mini-laptops.
While we can't be sure, the Neo CPUs are usually paired up with a Radeon 4200-series GPU, giving the system a decent amount of graphical-muscle. Rounding out the specs are 2GB DDR3, a 250GB hard-drive and Windows 7 Home Premium. Unfortunately, the listing doesn't really go into any more details, including the resolution of the 12in screen.
While the AMD-branded internals can provide a pretty-snappy experience, we were quite disappointed by the relatively short battery-life of the dual-core version when compared to Intel's offerings. However, the single-core CPU should help this laptop to last just a little bit longer.
The netbook can be pre-ordered now for €444.99, which works out to around £370, or almost the exact same as a similarly-equipped model currently available from Dell.
For the ASUS-faithful craving a modern AMD-powered netbook, the Eee 1215T may be just what you're looking for. Obviously there's no official release-date, but we'd expect it to be available in the next few weeks, considering that ASUS has already posted a full complement of user manuals to its website.
