NVIDIA GeForce GTS 450: launch-day pricing and availability

NVIDIA's new Fermi-based mainstream-GPU is now out in the wild.  We've had a chance to play around with stock-clocked and factory-overclocked GTS 450s, so all that's left now is to look at how much the cards are retailing for.

Day-one availability of the other cards in the GeForce 400-series hasn't been great, so lets see if NVIDIA has managed to sort-out any manufacturing problems.

To muddle things up a bit, the majority of partners have one, two or even three factory-overclocked GPUs available.  To try and keep everything straight, we've put the core clock-speeds in brackets next to each model (where available).  Obviously there's a lot more to differentiate these cards than just the frequencies, but it helps to differentiate the overclocked, super-overclocked and super-mega-overclocked variants.

There's clearly a huge number of different GTS 450s listed at these retailers - far more than any other card that's launched recently.  Unfortunately, only one of them is actually in stock.  However, many are listed as arriving on Wednesday - and in great numbers - so availability should be a lot better by the end of the week.

While there are a handful of models at the £99 MSRP, the litany of non-standard cards form a continuum up to around £120.  For a few more pounds, you can easily find GPUs that are clocked quite a bit higher than reference and feature custom fans and PCBs.

Remember, though, that the 768MB GTX 460 is available for just a little more than some of the higher-end GTS 450s.  However, with rumours circulating that it'll soon be phased-out, the card may not be around for much longer.

At these prices, the GTS 450 is looking like a pretty compelling mid-range card, and a good match for the similarly-priced alternatives from AMD.
