The problem with Mini-ITX systems is that high-quality chassis can be hard to come by.  With a few exceptions, the majority just aren't that good looking.  Now Lian Li has turned its expertise to the form-factor and managed to come up with two rather fetching new cases.

The PC-Q09 and PC-Q09F are based on the same basic design, but differ slightly in terms of the power supply.  The former includes an 110W notebook-like external power-brick, while the latter relies on a built-in 150W PSU.  While both are small, the Q09 is slightly shorter, measuring 265mm x 200mm x 110mm, compared to the Q09F's height of 124mm.

Not only does an external power-supply reduce the weight of the PC, but it removes a major heat source, helping to keep the system cool and quiet.  While both should provide enough power for the majority of CPUs, the 150W model will be able to support all but the most power-hungry processors.

Even though the cases are small, it doesn't mean that the manufacturer skimped on features.  There is room to mount a slim optical-drive as well as a 2.5in HDD or SSD and the front panels provide audio outputs and two USB 3.0 ports.  Disappointingly, there's no room for a PCI expansion card, though that won't be a problem for a lot of people.

As with all of its cases, Lian Li has spent a lot of time thinking about cooling.  While the chassis comes with a quiet 80mm fan, the vented aluminium-panels should dissipate heat well enough that it isn't necessary.

Both cases will be available sometime this month in black, silver, red and white with prices starting at $169 for the PC-Q09 and $129 for the PX-Q09F (£131 and £100 including VAT, respectively).
