Google has built a reputation for testing new and interesting features across all of its products. The latest of these to make it out of the Googleplex is an incremental search which displays and updates results as you type.
The new feature - which doesn't seem to have been rolled out to Google UK yet - goes above and beyond suggesting search terms. As words are typed into the search box, the results page is updated in real time based on the what Google thinks you are most likely to be looking for.
It would appear that the company is making use of the same AJAX API that is used to stream new data to Google Maps without reloading the page. None the less, the results are quite impressive, and a testament to the power of Google's servers to be able to deliver updated information so quickly.
By way of demonstration, a consultant in Seattle has posted a video - which is best seen in high definition - that clearly shows the new features in action.
According to comments sent by Google to The Register, this is just one of a number of experiments that the company is testing out, and doesn't necessarily represent the direction that the search engine is taking. The fact that it hasn't been announced on the official company blog also suggests that this may just be a temporary experiment. However, it's clear that Google is still experimenting with ways to improve and develop its search engine and user experience in an effort to stay ahead of the curve.
