Dell's original Inspiron Zino HD managed to provide a complete PC experience in a very small package. However, the system has been around for a while, and its 65nm mobile Athlon internals are starting to look a little long in the tooth. According to some leaked documentation, though, the mini-PC is about to get quite a boost in the form of the new Zino 410.

The setup guide - which made its way onto Dell's support website - points to all new internals using AMD's latest parts. The information lists a range of CPUs as being on offer, including Athlon II, Turion II, Phenom II and V-series chips. This of course means that the new Zino will be available in single-, dual-, triple- and even quad-core flavours. While details of specific models aren't given, we expect to see mobile processors from the ‘Danube' platform featuring in these systems.

Of course, with the new family of processors comes a new chipset. The latest Zino models will all make use of an integrated Radeon 4250 graphics-core courtesy of the RS880M northbridge. However, the system can be outfitted with a Radeon HD 5450 1GB discrete GPU should you need a little more graphical oomph.

The remainder of the internals also seem to have been given an appreciable boost, with 802.11n WiFi, up to 8GB DDR3 and a Blu-ray drive all on offer. Storage capacity isn't listed, but with room for a single 3.5in hard-drive, 2TB shouldn't be out of the question.

Dell's Inspiron Zino line are useful little PCs, and this refresh should provide more than enough power for everyday tasks, an HTPC or even some light gaming. Since this isn't an official announcement, we have no idea when these new models will be available or how much they'll cost. Considering the support documents seem to be pretty finalised, we'd expect them to show up on Dell's online store sooner rather than later.

Just like all these mini PCs I love them except for one thing - the single hard drives! I wouldn't trust my media collection to a single hard drive. So that pretty much means buying a NAS and placing it within wired distance of the mini PC, then 2 boxes instead of 1 means a lot of the advantages are gone. Although it's huge for a media PC I'm yet to find anything that can match my Antec Fusion for practicality in a much smaller form factor.
