ASUS is hoping to breathe some new life into its Intel X58 chipset business by taking the price-cutting hammer to the P6X58D-E motherboard, which is down from the usual £170-£180 retail outlay to sub-£150 this week.

Much like the P6X58D Premium that's the mainstay of our high-end testing platform, the P6X58D-E arrives with a surfeit of features. The specifications page shows that it supports the latest Core i7 chips; six DIMM slots; three mechanical x16 PCIe slots; SATA 6Gbps; USB 3.0 and FireWire, for starters, so it's not a bad deal for 150 notes.

Scan currently has it listed for £149.99, presumably for this week only, and our recommendation for a mid-priced, full-featured X58 board would go to either the P6X58D-E or the also-£150 Gigabyte X58-UD3R rev 2.0.

Well that's helped me make up my mind. First part of my new system to be ordered ASAP.
Now they go and bundle it with an i7 930 and take a bit more money off.

Fine, fine, i'll buy one!
Paired with the Sata 3 128GB SSD from Crucial it's safe to say this is a pretty fast system. Very easy on the setup as well.
