Samsung has become the latest hard-drive manufacturer to introduce a 2.5in mobile drive in a 1TB capacity.
Dubbed the Spinpoint MT2 1TB, the drive follows in the footsteps of Western Digital and Toshiba by utilising a trio of 333GB platters.
Doing so enables the industry-leading 1TB capacity, but at the cost of overall size. Measuring 12.5mm thick, the Spinpoint MT2 1TB won't be compatible with most modern laptops and is instead touted as the ideal solution for portable storage, digital TVs, home media systems and set-top boxes.
In keeping with Toshiba's rival MKxx59GSM, Samsung's drive operates at a speed of 5,400rpm and comes equipped with an 8MB cache. A smaller 750GB model is also available, and we're told both drives are shipping now.
There's no mention of pricing, but the finer details - including shock resistance levels - can be found in Samsung's press release.
