If you're an Apple user longing for TRIM support to be made available to Mac OS X, it seems your prayers may soon be answered.
The folks over at Anandtech have noticed that Apple's system profiler lists an entry for "TRIM Support" on the new 13in MacBook Pro.
Although the OS was found not to recognise TRIM functionality on supporting drives, the mere mention of the technology suggests that Apple is on course to introduce TRIM support to its Mac computers.
In use, the TRIM command effectively lets the operating system know which blocks of data can be wiped from Flash-based storage. The process, commonly referred to as garbage collection, can help maintain optimal performance throughout use.
At present, TRIM is supported by the Windows 7, Windows Server 2008, Linux and FreeBSD operating systems.
