Introduction

NVIDIA's grounds-up GeForce 400-series architecture, released at the end of March this year, got off to something of a rocky start. We concluded that the big, hot GeForce GTX 480 beastie, priced at £400-plus, was perhaps ahead of its time.

GeForce GTX 470 - a cut-down version of GTX 480 - offered more promise for an outlay of £300, but it failed to stamp any semblance of authority over the six-month-old Radeon HD 5870 from AMD/ATI.

Now that GeForce 400-series' production has ramped up and NVIDIA is in a position to harvest yields, the graphics giant has quietly released the GeForce GTX 465 to its partners.

Much like how the GTX 470 is pared-down when compared against the GTX 480, NVIDIA's newest GPU sacrifices performance for a lower etail price of £230-£250 - right in the territory held by the Radeon HD 5850. Let's investigate if NVIDIA's design is good enough to challenge the best that ATI has to offer.
