We're adamant that an AMD six-way ATI Eyefinity configuration has a lot of promise, but our review highlighted two immediate problems; the intrusive bezels found on most modern displays detract from the overall experience and the fiddly setup process demands a lot of patience.
What we need, then, is a pre-configured six-screen display wall with thinner-than-usual bezels. Samsung's MD230X6 ought to do the trick:
The awesome array has been making its way around trade shows for the past few months, but has now finally reached retail.
Built specifically for use with an ATI Radeon HD 5870 Eyefinity 6 Edition graphics card, the MD230X6 features six MD230 LCD monitors in a 3x2 configuration.
Each display offers a 1,920x1,080 resolution - resulting in a massive 5,760x2,160 overall view - and comes equipped with the Eyefinity-required DisplayPort connector as well as DVI and VGA inputs. Contrast ratio is rated at a typical 3,000:1, and a 8ms GTG response time should be decent for a session of Crysis - just don't expect many frames per second at full resolution.
The ultra-slim bezels suggest the MD230X6 will provide the best six-way Eyefinity experience to date, but as you'd expect, it won't come cheap. The unit is now filtering through to UK retail priced at £3,180. Cool dream to have though, right?
