Taiwanese chassis specialist Lian Li has unearthed its latest mid-tower solution in the form of the PC-X900.

The mid-tower beast, pictured above in an alarming red finish, will thankfully also be available in either black or silver and is designed to slot in between the gargantuan PC-X2000 and the smaller PC-X500.

Measuring 230mm x 598mm x 388mm, it's still a formidable box and it weighs just over 8kg. The available room appears to have been put to good use, though, as the chassis provides three 5.25in bays and seven 3.5in bays, all of which are tool-free.

There's room for ATX or M-ATX mainboards, and most GPUs shouldn't be a problem as we're told the chassis can support cards measuring up to 300mm in length.

Seven PCI slots should make light work of your SLI/CrossFire configuration, and the entire chassis is divided into two zones in order to provide better thermal performance and an all-round tidier interior, says Lian Li.

There's plenty of room to work with inside, and a couple of useful touches; the hole in the motherboard tray will help install certain CPU coolers, and there's room for a 180mm PSU at the rear of the chassis.

Cooling comes courtesy of five 120mm LED fans - three of which are housed up front, with the remaining two acting as rear exhausts. That could be a recipe for noise, but in order to keep the decibels in check, a built-in fan controller allows the user the adjust fan speeds with ease.

On top of all that, you'll find an I/O panel equipped with four USB 3.0 ports, eSATA and HD audio ports. A decent-looking solution for your next gaming rig, perhaps, but we can't begin to fathom why Lian Li reckons the PC-X900 "fits perfectly in the living room as a home theater system".

Expect to see it in stores at the tail end of the month priced at $439 for the black/silver model, or $499 (roughly Ā£390 including VAT) for the hellish red.

Zone 1 is a giant waste of space, which idiot came up with that sparkling moment of absolute brain damage?
Surely it doesn't have seven 2.5" bays?
Gah! My eyes! :geek: :puke:

That is horrid, what's going on in the understated and sensibly innovative world of Lian Li?!
perfect fit for living room , they cant be talking about this case
