GIGABYTE has shown some Apple-loving today, with the announcement of its On/Off Charge technology.

As an innovation that relies on the company's 3x USB Power Boost initiative - described as delivering compatibility and stability for USB devices, by supplying sufficient power through a single USB port - On/Off Charge technology, will enable the ability for Apple iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch devices to draw increased current from the USB ports on a supported GIGABYTE mainboard.

The benefit for users, is that device charge times could be reduced by up to 40%, or so claims GIGABYTE, as regardless of the system power state, On/Off Charge technology enables a more efficient and time-sensitive platform.

GIGABYTE's implementation is as simple as its On/Off Charge driver software, followed by an alternative physical front panel connector that will be available with selected upcoming mainboard offerings.

On/Off Charge technology can be found on forty of the company's mainboard models, ranging from Intel P55/X58, to AMD 800 powered solutions and a demonstration of the technology in demonstration, is expected to take place in Taipei, tomorrow.

Is this just for Apple products, or is it iMarketing nonsense assuming that everything portable begins with an i?
At the moment its mostly Apple who have ignored the USB standard….. Actually thats a bit harsh, the USB standard doesn't really allow for fast charging, as your quite limited to the power you can draw, even from a root hub.

So they are doing whatever proprietary thing apple are doing to allow for faster charging by providing a whole Amp or something!
