They're a few upcoming challengers to Apple's iPad - from the likes of Dell and HP - however, news is abound today that ASUS is readying its own foray into the ring, with an offering lovingly known as the Eee Pad.

It is believed that ASUS is tapping into the power of the Android platform for the software side of things, whilst NVIDIA's Tegra 2 SoC will form the heart of the system. Moreover, features ranging from USB connectivity and an integrated webcam, to Adobe Flash support from a software angle, appear to be attempts to leapfrog over Apple's effort.

The Eee Pad is expected to see the light of day during the fast-approaching Computex 2010 show, whilst an actual commercial launch is suggested to take place sometime during Q3, 2010.

A ballpark price-point is around the $500 mark, perhaps with conditions attached.

Will be interesting to see how the competition fares against apple's iPad, as Apple have the App store and the iPhone/iPod brand that will make a difference I'm sure.

Competitors machines need to be slick with their functions to compete properly and be cheaper too.

As ever until these things get a proper review it is impossible to properly predict how they'll fare against such things as the iPad.
It'll be interesing to see if this reaches the shores of the UK. Most of the Asus lineup never reaches the UK (or EU for that matter), to the extent I often wonder if they are about to withdraw from this market. It's a curious company that runs the rest of the world 2 generations of laptops ahead of the UK and wonders about low UK sales!
