ASUS has harnessed NVIDIA's Optimus Technology today, in the UK launch of its N61JV laptop offering.

Fuelled by a dual-core Intel 'Arrandale' Core i5-430M CPU, running at a sprightly 2.26GHz, the N61JV is married up with 4GB DDR3 RAM and a 500GB storage solution.

We find a discrete NVIDIA GeForce GT325M graphics workhorse - offering 1GB of dedicated memory - teamed up with an integrated Intel GMA 4500MHD solution, to power the 16" HD display unit. It is in this moment, that NVIDIA's Optimus Technology comes into play, by running in the background during system operation and, harmoniously, switching between discrete and integrated graphics dependent on the task at hand.

During tasks requiring maximum performance, such as gaming, the system automatically hones in on the power of the NVIDIA discrete solution, whilst more menial tasks  tap into the power of the integrated Intel solution. A benefit touted, is the improved battery-life prospects that the end-user can envisage deriving.

Adorned with other titbits from USB 3.0 support to an integrated 1.3MP webcam and, a Blu-ray Combo drive, the ASUS N61JV is expected to market at an SRP of £949.

£949?!?!?! I've been waiting for the release of the N82JV for a while (like this laptop but 14" and with a GT335m) but if this thing is £949 I really dread to think how much the N82 will be! :(

Been waiting for the N82JV too. However I have seen the N61JV selling at UK e-tailers for the past month or so. With a bit of searching you can find it below £900.
