Acer has itself a smart range of notebooks with its Aspire Timeline series, but the Taiwanese manufacturer is set to move things up a notch with the introduction of its all-new Ethos line.

Initially available in two form factors - the 15.6in Aspire Ethos 5943G (pictured) and 18.4in Aspire Ethos 8943G - Acer's latest offers a radical new design that comes across as clean, crisp and sophisticated.

Fortunately, the sexy-looking chassis isn't all that's on offer here. Both systems will feature a choice of Intel Core i3, Core i5 or Core i7 processors - right up to the 1.73GHz Core i7 820QM - combined with up to 4GB of DDR3 memory and a choice of one of two potent GPUs; the ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5850 or Radeon HD 5650, both of which provide a 1GB frame buffer.

Both models offer Gigabit Ethernet and Wireless N connectivity as standard - with Bluetooth available as an optional extra - and feature an eight-cell battery that Acer reckons is good for three-and-a-half hours use from a single charge. Though, we've no idea what specification that battery life is in reference to.

Nonetheless, other niceties include the option for a DVD or Blu-ray writer, a built-in webcam, a multi-touch trackpad, a DVB-T TV tuner and a fingerprint reader, too.

The smaller Aspire Ethos 5943G, measuring 382mm x 269mm x 24-39.4mm, weighs in at 3.3kg and features a 15.6in Acer CineCrystal LED display that offers a 1,366x768 resolution. The system can be equipped with a choice of storage solutions ranging up to 640GB in capacity.

The larger Aspire Ethos 8943G, meanwhile, measures a chunkier 440mm x 295mm x 31-43.8mm and weighs 4.6kg. The additional baggage will get you a gorgeous 18.4in Acer CineCrystal LED display capable of pushing a full-HD 1,920x1,080 resolution, and you'll be able to customise the system with two hard drives in a RAID configuration - allowing for up to 1.2TB of storage capacity.

They're a mighty fine-looking pair of systems, but there's no mention of pricing or availability yet.
