SanDisk has announced that it is now shipping the world's first 32GB microSDHC memory card.

Built on a 32nm process, the Class 2 card (pictured right) provides a twofold increase in microSDHC storage capacity and is available today priced at a substantial $199.99.

The microSDHC format, measuring 15 mm x 11 mm x 1mm, is most commonly used in smartphones and SanDisk is encouraging both mobile network operators and handset manufacturers to begin implementing the high-capacity 32GB card.

Earlier this year, rival Flash memory manufacturer Samsung announced that its first 32GB microSDHC memory card would soon enter production, but it hasn't yet made its way to market.

The arrival of 32GB solutions from numerous manufacturers should drive down the asking price, but smartphone manufacturers appear to be moving away from expandable storage. Apple's hugely-popular iPhone doesn't support any form of expandable memory, and Microsoft has recently confirmed that its Windows Phone 7 Series devices will also lack support for user-upgradeable memory.

What is it with these idiots that make them want to reduce customer choice/abilities with the products that we buy? What don't they understand about the old adage that you can never have enough storage?
