Selective specs
Last month Sony launched a new range of, by its standards, affordable notebooks with the emphasis on colour and customisability. Now there's additional choice in the VAIO E series as 14 inch and 17 inch variants have been added.
Of the two, only the 14 inch ones come with the same funky colour options of their 15.5 inch predecessors. The 17 inch ones are clearly meant to be the more sober, gown-up option, and are only available in black or white.
All VAIO E series notebooks have a Sony feature called Quick Web Access, which allows you to startup a web browser without having to boot-up Windows. As you can see from the spec lists below, the 14 inch has the same Intel Core i3 CPU as standard as the 15.5 inch one, but we're up to a Core i5 with the 17 inch model. However, it should be noted that when you go to the Sony website, the Core i5 is a £50 upgrade.
The 17 inch Vaio E series is already available, with a base price of £609 inc VAT on Sony's UK site (with a Core i3 CPU, 320 GB HDD, 2 GB memory, Radeon 5470, in fact a completely different spec to below, for which you would pay more like £900). The 14 inchers aren't listed yet, but we'd expect them to start at around £500.
