Thecus has today introduced the 1U4600 rackmount NAS server, a long awaited successor to 2007's 1U4500.

The enterprise storage solution, pictured above, makes use of an Intel Celeron processor and 1GB of memory to provide "tremendous data transfer performance and quick system response even with multiple client access", says Thecus.

Featuring four SATA 3Gbps bays, the 1U unit offers support for multiple RAID modes - including RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10 and JBOD - and online RAID volume management. Administrators wanting to expand the storage capacity can also look forward to the 1U4600's "cloud networking ability", allowing multiple units to be accessed and managed via a designated master system.

Hoping to address the needs of most organisations, Thecus states that the 1U4600 can be configured to run in NAS, DAS or iSCSI modes. Security and reliability is also catered for, with Thecus incorporating its familiar dual DOM design and a 250W redundant power supply.

There's no word on pricing or availability just yet, but the complete specification and further details are available at the official Thecus product page.
