Don't you just hate it when you're in the middle of a make-or-break Tweet, only to find that your wireless keyboard runs out of juice? Or, worse still, when you're about to finally defeat that Big Daddy only to realise your mouse is out of Plasmid?

If that sounds like you, you're probably going to like the look of Logitech's latest keyboard-and-mouse combination, the Wireless Desktop MK710.

Expected to become available to UK shoppers later this month priced at £89.99, the Wireless Desktop MK710 claims to be the industry's first keyboard-and-mouse bundle to offer up to three years of battery life.

"Up to" can mean just about anything, of course, but Logitech clarifies by stating that the keyboard calculation is based on around two million keystrokes per year. That's about two keystrokes a minute, if you were to keep typing 24 hours a day, seven days a week, for all 52 weeks of the year. Just about long enough for a lengthy session of World of Warcraft, we reckon.

"No one thinks about changing batteries until they have to, but when that time comes, it can stop you in your tracks," said Rory Dooley, Logitech's senior vice president and general manager of the Control Devices business unit. "With its industry first, three year battery life for a combo, you might just forget the Logitech Wireless Desktop MK710 uses batteries at all."

How exactly does it manage to prolong battery life? Well, Logitech doesn't seem to be going into detail, but we're told the company's 2.4GHz wireless technology is "much faster" and "more efficient" than typical solutions, and that both the keyboard and mouse will enter an idle mode sooner than usual.

In addition to the ultra-long life, the MK710 offers a handful of Logitech-specific features - including the tiny Logitech Unifying receiver, Incurve keyboard keys that "support the shape of your fingertips", a cushioned palm rest and an LCD dashboard for Caps Lock, Scroll Lock, Num Lock and battery life status. Meanwhile, the mouse - Logitech's Marathon Mouse M705 - offers a right-hand design, a laser tracking system and "hyper-fast scrolling".
