Gigabyte is bringing USB 3.0 to the mainstream segment with its upcoming H55 and H57 Express boards due to launch in time for Intel's LGA1156 Clarkdale chips in Q1 2010

Pictures of a few boards already tipped up online this week, and were pegged as the mini ATX (mATX) GA-H55M-S2H and GA-H55M-UD2H as well as the full size ATX GA-H55-UD3H. The pictures all appear to show USB 2.0 written on the boards.

But Gigabyte told HEXUS many more models featuring USB 3.0 should tip up on shelves towards the end of January, after the Intel launch.

Tim Handley, deputy director of motherboard marketing at Gigabyte, told us: "USB 3.0 is one of the most exciting new technologies on the market and we're expecting it to be a key spec in 2010, so you'll find it on an extensive range of Gigabyte motherboards for almost every price segment."

"We will show another two USB 3.0 models on Thursday, all in all there will be seven or eight H55 & H57 models with USB 3.0. As far as I know no other vendor is planning on providing USB 3.0 on H55 boards," he added.
