Coming soon

A rather interesting proposition has tipped up from MSI, with the firm's upcoming P55-GD85 pictured online, just a couple of days after snaps leaked of the firm's 890FX-GD70.

Whilst the 890FX-GD70 seems to be geared at the high-end for the AMD platform, with no less than six PCI Express x16 slots, the P55-GD85 only has two, but that's still enough for an SLI and CrossFireX setup. Not to mention that the board also sports seven SATA 3Gbps ports and two ports for SATA 6Gbps, with integrated support for USB 3.0 thrown in as well.

Both ASUS and Gigabyte have already announced and launched USB 3.0 and SATA 6Gbps offerings, so MSI isn't the first to the table, but that doesn't take anything away from the P55-GD85, which is also kitted out with four memory slots capable or running DDR3 RAM at up to 2,600MHz. Tasty, huh?

The cutting-edge P55 chipset board supports LGA1156 processors, has an 8+2 phase DrMOS, a PLX bridge-chip providing extra PCIe lanes and is able to perform Active Phase Switching (APS). It also features an eSATA port, a dual Gigabit Ethernet port, two USB 3.0 ports and 7.1-channel audio, too.

Details about pricing and availability aren't yet known, which leads us to believe we probably won't see it arriving on shelves before the New Year.

Now we're getting there! I wonder if this is a solution that doesn't borrow PCI-E lanes?
