Corsair launches Dominator GTX: the world's fastest DDR3 memory module

With rival manufacturers recently announcing speedy DDR3 memory kits of their own, Corsair has today fired back by launching the fastest module around: the all-new Dominator GTX.

The extreme-module, pictured above, is tested to operate at a frequency of 2,250MHz with latencies of 8-8-8-24 at 1.65V, and will be sold individually from the Corsair online store on Tuesday, December 8th. Corsair plans to begin taking orders at 9am pacific time, but warns that availability will be "extremely limited" and that orders will be placed on a first come first served basis.

There's no mention of price (but you don't need us to tell you it won't be pretty) - and indeed no mention of capacity - but Corsair recommends using its optional GT Airflow fan for the highest possible performance.

Kevin Conley, VP of Engineering at Corsair states that the "Dominator GTX modules are the most tightly-screened, highest-quality and fastest DDR3 memory modules in the world."

"We look forward to seeing what the enthusiast and overclocking community can do with these exciting new products," he adds.

We're told each module is screened by hand at Corsair's California lab, and there's support for both Intel and AMD platforms - though, the latter isn't certified for blazing-fast 2,250MHz speeds. Here's a Corsair-provided table of baseline performance characteristics of the Dominator GTX module in a choice of platforms:

*Update* Corsair has confirmed that each Dominator GTX module will be 2GB in capacity. A product page is also now available at the Corsair online store, though there's still no mention of pricing.

What impresses me is that they manage to achieve 2.2GHz at stock (1.65V) voltage. Most modules above 1800MHz I've seen, until recently, required 1.8 V.
Those new G.Skill ECO ones are 1600Mhz @ 1.35v aren't they. Is there a certain limit DDR3 can reach or maximum or… ?

1.65V rated, but as long as you don't over juice it such that the CPU mem controller doesn't fry. Otherwise it's time for another chip.

Thats the voltage at which they're rated at that speed. Not how I interpreted the question you asked:
Is there a certain limit DDR3 can reach or maximum or… ?

The highest rated voltage you'll see for any kit is 1.65V.

My standard G.Skill DDR3 run at 1.62V, and are rated 1333 8-8-8-24 at 1.5V. I have BIOS options to push it to 1.8V, I'm sure there are boards that'll let you select 2V.
