NVIDIA pumps its Quads

NVIDIA popped the cork on a couple of new Quadro cards on Tuesday, both for desktops and mobile workstations.

Announced at the Autodesk conference in Las Vegas - Autodesk University - it's hardly surprising NVIDIA is touting that its newest offerings are completely optimised and certified for AutoCAD, 3ds Max and other Autodesk software.

But apart from that, there are apparently benefits to the non-Autodesk university graduate too.

The first card is something of a poor-designer's professional product, with the Quadro FX 380 LP low profile coming in at just $169, the most affordable of the Quadros to date. NVIDIA reckons that despite its low price and small form factor - it can fit into a desktop - it still has what it takes to offer users 10X acceleration in AutoCAD 2009 versus run of the mill consumer graphics cards.

It also packs 512 MB of graphics memory and is EnergyStar compliant at a low, low 28W maximum power consumption.
