Making a big production out of a press release, AMD has announced that Hollywood player, Troublemaker Studios, is using not only Six-Core AMD Opteron processors to make on-screen animation and special effects come to life, but also ATI FirePro graphics.

AMD claims it has a long history in the movie making industry, although with huge contracts from the likes of DreamWorks going over to Intel, maybe the "history" part of that claim is the most telling.

But AMD does still have at least one special relationship in Hollywood, and that's with cult director Robert Rodriguez, who has oft boasted his use of AMD technology, most recently to animate the "booger monster" in the children's movie "Shorts".

Rodriguez has also used AMD's platforms to make five of his other films, including "Spy Kids 2: The Island of Lost Dreams", "Spy Kids 3D: Game Over" and the more notorious "Sin City". His next film, "Machete" - currently in the production phase and set for release next year- also relies on AMD's movie making tech, apparently.

The director has consistently sung AMD's praises, saying the firm gives him and his team "the freedom to quickly design and animate our concepts and designs."
