It was way back in March 2008 that NZXT first unveiled its Tempest chassis, calling it the "Airflow King" that would satisfy "the high performance demands of PC Enthusiasts and Gamers worldwide".

Fast forward nearly 20 months, and the El Monte, California-based company is today unveiling a successor - dubbed the Tempest EVO.

Promising "advanced cooling power, expandability, and cable management", the Tempest EVO sports a total of six bundled fans - dual blue-LED 120mm front intakes, a rear 120mm exhaust, a blue-LED 120mm side fan and two 140mm top exhausts. That's actually the same configuration as the existing Tempest, but NZXT reckons its redesigned fan blades will deliver more air flow at lower noise levels.

The steel mid-tower measures 211.5mm x 521.5mm x 562mm and there's room for eight 3.5in hard drives and three 5.25in optical drives. That's joined by seven expansion slots, room for a bottom-mounted PSU, and support for BABY AT, Micro-ATX, ATX and E-ATX motherboards.

NZXT tells us cable management is improved - with pre-drilled holes and greater room behind the motherboard tray for cable storage - and the chassis features a "sleek" new look consisting of an all-black interior and a smoked side panel. The more extreme user will find the chassis is pre-drilled for watercooling, and there's even room for a dual 120mm radiator up top.

Our favourite feature, though, is the price. Like the original Tempest before it, NZXT suggests a figure of $99. That's roughly £60 excluding local taxes.

Now that doesn't look too bad. Although I still am not a fan of these huge windows, that looks like it could be a real challenger to the 300.Quote

They should use that flat bit infront of the USB ports for a hot drinks holder!Quote

No, that's where you mod in the iPod dock. :)Quote

I ave the original case and the only real problems are the cable management is pants. Also its not tall enough to fit a Thermochill PA120.2 in the top :(

Damn good case otherwise :)Quote
