Feeding the Christmas crowd with thin treats

Dell has finally confirmed andformally announced its mystery-shrouded Adamo XPS, put forward as the world's thinnest laptop at just 9.99mm, just four-tenths of an inch.

Right in time to woo punters before the Christmas buying craze, Dell's updated version of the Adamo - the 13.4in high-definition (720p) display XPS - boasts an Intel Core 2 Duo (1.4GHz) CULV processor, 4GB of DDR3 800MHz memory, a 128GB SSD, built-in 802.11n wireless and of course, Windows 7 in its 64-bit flavour.

Dell's original Adamo, which means "fall in love", was launched back in March 2009, in a case 0.65-inches thick.

As previously shown by pics of the XPS on HEXUS, the body of the wafer-thin machine - which weighs just over three pounds and measures 13.39 x 10.71 inches - is raised so the aluminium-key-capped keyboard sits at an angle - something Dell reckons will enhance cooling.

For those afraid something that thin must be more than a little flaky, battery-life-wise, Dell is also offering a replaceable battery, with a higher-capacity model as an option

The sexy laptop also features a capacitive-latching device, meaning users can flick it open with just a finger swipe, and comes complete with a DisplayPort connection, two USB 2.0 slots, audio and Ethernet ports.

A slightly Big Brother-esque feature on the Adamo XPS is the built-in location awareness, which means users will always be able to know where they are, according to real-time local maps.

Dell's Alex Gruzen, a senior vice president of the firm's consumer products, reckons the Adamo XPS "will inspire an emotional connection with anyone who sees it."

Falling in love with the Adamo XPS, however, comes at a price - a wallet-sapping $1,799. That's no cheap date, granted, but it is a bit of a looker.

Want :D
That's actually less money than I thought it would be…

If I was minted I would, it's a great piece of technology… I can see bankers and other business types the world over queuing up, unfortunately - cos that will relegate it to iPose territory.
Can you edit the article to be metric with imperial conversion? Instead of a weird mix of metric and imperial, it's even worse when you turn an imperial measurement into a decimal, you can't find 0.65" on a ruler!

And pounds! I really have no idea what that is. I know you are just lifting straight from the press release but can you please give us a European article with metric values.

edit Oh, and WANT!!

That is a really lovely looking laptop! Ignoring the fact it is so thin and light, it is very nicely designed. Loved the brushed black metal exterior.
Wasn't it ment to have wireless charging aswell?

Looks gorgeous though!
Wireless charging, together with a wireless usb hub and a wireless monitor(!) are optional extras.
