Confirming numbers that were originally forecasted in January 2009, ABI Research reckons that 35m netbooks will be shipped through the course of this year.

The netbook segment was dominated by ASUS, Acer and Samsung in 2008, accounting for 74 per cent of shipments, according to senior ABI analyst Jeff Orr.

This year, the market is saturated by a greater number of players, with the likes of Nokia trying its hand in the burgeoning market.

The future for netbooks looks bright, ABI says, commenting that the total number of shipments is likely to treble by 2013.

With Intel's Pine Trail platform and NVIDIA's ION2 on the horizon, have you been lured into contemplating the purchase a netbook? How would you define the current netbook experience? What makes the perfect netbook? Let us know your thinking in the HEXUS.community.

I bought one. For me they are just small laptops, but then i did put Windows 7 Ultimate on it :)

I don't need no pesky optical drive either :mrgreen:Quote

I got an EEEpc 701 on release from Taiwan (Remember that - the first netbook). Loved it at first, but soon got fed up with the 7" screen and 4gb SSD. Sold it 5 months ago after decided it had sat about for far too long.Quote

I won one :)

I wouldn't have bought one, however.

I'm waiting for 12 hours (real world) battery life.Quote

Bought the first EEEpc netbook, but that was hampered by the low res screen.

Then bought an Acer One 8.9" and it's just perfect for throwing in my briefcase, and always being there when I need it.
Did a fresh install of XP, and its quick enough for my usage.Quote

I bought a EEE 901 a year ago... but probably going to sell it on ebay, I hardly use the damn thing - too small to use and weak and not as light to carry about as first seemed... a little pissed off with myself really, because I spent money on a bigger SSD and large battery, so probably could have ended up buying much more useful stuff with the money.

I actually thought I used more internet than I seem to... then realised most of my internet was related to stuff I do on a proper computer - like work or games.

I'm keeping my eye on CULV laptops, and smartbooks... I might be more willing to carry around something that did more for me (i.e. some games properly) or was just really light and cheap (700g or something)...Quote
