MSI has rolled out yet another all-in-one PC in the form of the Wind Top AE2220, but this is one that's worth taking note of.

According to the Taiwanese manufacturer, the AE2220 ships with a 21.6in full-HD, 1,920x1,080 multi-touch display and Microsoft's Windows 7 Home Premium operating system. That's useful in itself, but what's really interesting is what's inside.

MSI has equipped the system with a choice of Intel processors (either the 2.2GHz Core 2 Duo T6600 or the 2.1GHz Pentium T4300) and an NVIDIA ION chipset armed with integrated GeForce 9300 graphics.

Given the combination, this doesn't seem to be the first-gen ION chipset designed for Intel's Atom line of processors. Could it be ION 2? We're remaining just a touch sceptical as MSI's listed specifications don't have a great track record, but the combination of a Core 2 Duo processor and integrated GeForce 9000-series graphics is a useful-looking solution.

Rounding off the spec is 4GB of DDR2 memory, a 640GB hard drive, Wireless N connectivity, a 1.3 megapixel webcam, a side-loading DVD multi drive and two built-in speakers. There's even eSATA and HDMI connectivity, a six-in-one card reader and a bundled infrared Media Center remote control.

A TV tuner is available as an optional extra, and though we've yet to see any mention of UK availability, US pre-orders are already being taken. Prices range from $659.99 to $899.99 depending on specification.

Given that NVIDIA now seems to be pairing its ION chipset with a wider range of Intel CPUs, expect to see a wave of new ION-based systems in the run up to Christmas.

Sounds a decent spec. Would be good for something wall mountable in the bedroom.

I like that Asus have started to do HDMI in on their all-in-ones and monitors, useful for those with a games console and wanting to save space. I hope more manufacturers follow in their footsteps.
Correct me if I'm wrong but ION was just an Atom version of the existing 9300/9400 chipset that's been on HTPC motherboards and in laptops (Apple et al) for ages…

They might have decided to re-brand the mobile versions ION or something, but they were orginally for Core 2 anyway… then adapted for Atom…

Pretty much what I was thinking. If anything, this is Ion 0, rather than Ion 2 ;)

Then again, given NVidia's predeliction towards renaming old SKUs to create new ones, it probably *will* be called Ion 2…

QFT! :)

With that spec on the CPU side, shame doesn't come with a more powerful option on the GPU, though I appreciate that this system is not targeted at gamer types…

would love to get one of these sorts of computer for my parents (permanently using laptops at home sucks imho).
