CPU and GPU performance

CPU performance

By moving the CPU architecture from Penryn to Westmere, Intel has bolstered clock-for-clock performance compared to the previous generation. The new Clarkdale chips can be thought of as a scaled-down of Lynnfield. We expect to see the dual-core chips clock up to 3.33GHz, and a little higher with Turbo Boost.

What we're showing you, below, are Intel-provided numbers when compared to dual- and quad-core chips from the previous generation.

The numbers are based on the Clarkdale chip running with Turbo Boost.

Westmere underpinnings mean an integrated memory-controller for decent bandwidth.

And nicely quicker in PCMark Vantage.

Graphics

Intel has also augmented the integrated graphics portion of Clarkdale by adding extra execution units and higher clock-speeds when compared to presently-available GMA X4500.

As you can see, Clarkdale graphics are around 50 per cent faster than X4500, according to the Intel-provided numbers, above.

The upshot is 3D perf that is roughly analogous to AMD's 785G's, intimating that you will be able to play basic games at low-ish resolutions.
