The below article was first published on September 3rd, 2009. We recommend that readers hoping to bag a bargain stay tuned to the HEXUS.community forums where HEXUS members are actively detailing the availability of MSI's promotional boards. Still undecided about Intel's Lynnfield processors? Take a look at our in-depth review and analysis.
Now that we know Intel will be launching its Lynnfield-based LGA 1156 processors on September 8th, MSI has revealed that it will run a limited promotion on its supporting P55-GD65 and P55-GD80 motherboards.
Come launch day, MSI will be knocking a massive 55 per cent off the asking price of its two range-topping boards. Consequently, the P55-GD65, with a suggested retail price of £139.99, will be made available for as little as £63! The top-end P55-GD80, meanwhile, would normally fetch £189 and could be yours during the promotion for just £85.50.
Sounds like a cracking deal, and MSI tells us it will offer the promotional prices on a limited quantity of stock - meaning the offer could last only hours. The promotion will run at SCAN*, Ebuyer, CCL and Overclockers, and we're told purchases will be limited to one board per customer.
If you weren't planning on a Core i5/Core i7 build, MSI may just have convinced you otherwise. Want to take a closer look at the two boards on offer? Check out our video walkthrough with MSI's Richard Stewart and our very own Tarinder Sandhu:
*As always, UK-based HEXUS.community discussion forum members will benefit from the SCAN2HEXUS Free Shipping initiative, which will save you a further few pounds plus also top-notch, priority customer service and technical support backed up by the SCANcare@HEXUS forum.
*Update* MSI has confirmed to HEXUS that its allocation of promotional boards has now sold out.

Personally I think the P55 boards are way overpriced, had it not been for the MSI promo offer I would never have paid the full retail £180 for an MSI P55 GD80.
The P55's are meant to be mainstrem boards but they seem to be charging high end X58 prices.
There are many boards that are priced well enough, when i7 was first released the MIN you were expected to pay for a basic board was £210Quote

The P55 boards sell from approx £100 - £200, theoretically if I had a budget midway of say £150 for a new mobo I would buy an X58 board, the advantages being triple channel memory and 16x16 lane graphics capability should I ever need it.
For P55 to be a viable alternative they need to drop the prices of their top end boards to below £150 because that is most definitely X58 territory. In time this may happen and that's just my personal opinion by the way.Quote
I'd never pay the full price for it now, knowing that some have paid half the price, and am sure everyone who has read about this offer and couldn't get hold of one feels the same.

You got a point. I got through to the ordering stage of EBuyer and then had the order cancelled - a good offer but it does leave a bit of a bad aftertaste for the people who missed out! Anyway, for the people who want P55, it is just time to chill out and wait a few months.Quote

is ebuyer going to uphold the price for those who got their order cancelled once you give them a call, or are we unlucky and thats not going to happen?Quote
